General Pool Tables Questions
What sizes of pool tables are available?
A standard English pool table is 7ft – most models are available in the space conscious 6ft though. A standard American pool table is 9ft however most models are available as 7ft or 8ft for home use.
How much space do I need for a home pool table?
This will depend on the table & cue sizes you opt for. A general rule is to take the dimensions of the surface play area and then add 2 cue lengths to both the width and height. Refer to a size guide to see what your room dimensions accommodate.
Should I choose a slate or MDF playing surface?
A slate bed is superior to an MDF one. The downside is the weight and the price are both a fair bit higher. The upside is that a slate bed can last decades, it offers a consistent roll and speed, is much more durable & offers a play surface akin to what the professionals use.
What frame & legs should I look for?
This is very much up to you and your home. There’s a huge breadth of models available in different styles – pub-style, diners, traditional, modern. Most of these models will be available in a range of finishes that capture different aesthetics – from rustic wood to concrete. A lot of tables let you pick between leg colour or material as well.
What kind of cloth (felt/baize) should I pick?
This depends on your needs & budget. All tables come with a limited choice of standard cloth colours. You have premium cloth options for an English wool pool cloth & a faster, more durable American woven cloth. We recommend reading more about this since it’s quite an important decision.
What accessories come with the pool table, and what else might I need?
Every table will without exception come with everything you need to play on arrival. Pool balls, cues, triangle, brush & chalk. There are deluxe accessory packs that include premium Aramith pool balls, ash cues, cue racks & stands, cloth cleaner & covers. You can also purchase cue rests or overhead lighting if necessary.
Do I need professional delivery and installation when I buy a pool table?
It is highly, highly recommend to have your table professionally installed. While people might think they can avoid the cost, the logistics of moving & installing a table that likely weighs more than 200kg are very difficult and likely to lead to injury or damaging the table. When professionally installed the fitters will also ensure the table is perfectly level.
What budget should I set for a pool table?
There are MDF models that come in between £400-600. There are slate bed tables available at a number of price points starting at £1500 and going up to £9000. The most common price point for indoor home pool tables we see is between £2000 and £2500.
Is it better to buy new or used pool table?
The benefit of buying new is that you get to customise the table to fit you and your home. You can also guarantee there aren’t any issues or damage. Buying used is an effective option to save on costs and you can pair it with a removal & recovering service to offset some of the issues with second hand tables.
How do I maintain my pool table?
Maintaining a pool table is not difficult. Avoid any spills. If it has a woven cloth just brush any debris off or give it a gentle hoover every now and again. A wool cloth needs a bit more care with a semi regular brush down the table to maintain the directional nap.
